April is National Poetry Month! And Nanaimo is jumping right in on Week One. Join us for any and all of the following. It’s all totally freaking free!
Tuesday, April 5, 11:00 am-Noon: Urban Poetry Café on Radio CHLY, 101.7 FM. Your hosts: Leanne McIntosh, Shirley Goldberg and Kim Goldberg, sharing poems from across the continent and around the world. (Part of the “Changes” radio program.)
Thursday, April 7, 7:00-8:00 pm: 3 Poets & A Dinner Plate at Wellington Library, 3032 Barons Road. An hour of poetry readings with David Fraser, Leanne McIntosh and Kim Goldberg. (Part of the Poetry Aloud reading series held on the first Thursday of each month at the same time and place.)
Sunday, April 10, 1:00-2:30 pm: Poem Gallery Unveiling and Readings at Harbourfront Library downtown. The Poem Gallery has been going since 2008. Thirty-seven local poets are included in the library’s latest Poem Gallery. And many of them will be on hand to read their selection on display. Light refreshments served.
And coming up in May, you won’t want to miss Nanaimo’s first Mayworks Poetry Festival featuring Kate Braid, Kim Goldberg, Wendy Morton and David Fraser. Readings take place on two consecutive Saturdays: May 14 and May 21 from 1:00-4:00 pm both days at the Nanaimo Museum downtown.
May the metaphors be with you!
We had a great Urban Poetry Cafe today on CHLY! Looking forward to the rest of the activities.
