Groovin’ at the Spring Writers Gathering

Me and Mona Fertig in front of the new Poetry Yurt at The Commons

Had a great time yesterday at our Third Annual Writers West Spring Gathering, which we hold on Gabriola Island each year. Sunny skies, fab food, cool people, important info… All for just $5! What more could a writer ask for?

Our Annual Spring Gathering is open to all writers.

If you are a writer and you would like to join our Writers West listerv where we discuss crucial issues affecting writers’ lives and livelihoods (copyright, eBooks, digital technologies, Access Copyright and more), then send an email to writerswest@telus.net along with your name and a bit of info about what you write.

We had an excellent presentation from Cathy Ford and DC (Dennis) Reid on the grim reality of what is happening to our earnings once they disappear into the Access Copyright meatgrinder.

And we also had a fact-filled session on eBook publishing with Natalia Cornwall from Harbour Publishing, as well as Dennis Reid (our man of the hour!), who shared his experience at producing Kindle singles (works of 5,000-30,000 words).   Here is a link to Natalia’s talking points from her Power Point presentation.

A few more pics…

The Commons on Gabriola Island is an idyllic pastoral setting – a former goat farm now collectively owned by the community.
